Sometimes, we never seem to realize the importance of a small object in our daily life to realize its importance. Nowadays, it is common for us to hold a mouse more frequently than we hold our pens or pencils. This small computer-navigating device has come a long way since its invention and it is only fair we pay some attention to its function and also its design.
The computer mouse has always been part of the computer; a man named Douglas Englebart invented the very first computer mouse prototype in 1964. However, as the computer’s technology advanced and improve, the mouse itself become more than just a device attached to the computer, it becomes an accessory and sometimes an irreplaceable necessity with the computer. The earliest computer mouse came with a roller ball, but since then this tiny device has undergo many changes in its design to suite those with specific needs. The computer mouse has evolved from roller ball, to optical, laser and now some with touch sensitive function.
At first, the computer mouse was created for personal computer navigation, since then the computer mouse design has made many changes to suite those with specific needs. More and more ideas and creativity have been incorporated into a computer mouse design, some were design just for conventional use, some for gaming and designing purpose, some designs were made for ergonomic purposes and others were designed with creativity. On the other hand, while many of us might realize that the computer mouse are slowly being replaced by touch pads or other touch sensitive device, there are still a large market out there, such as designers who still prefer to work with mouse for more control, accuracy and flexibility when designing their work.
Due to long hours of computer usage, many of us have develop computer-related injuries, one of the common injuries lays in the hand for using the mouse for a long period of time each day. This is also one of the main reasons for the mouse design transformation, seeing that most of the mouse design these days are incorporated with ergonomic features to reduce muscle stress in the hands. Not only that, after much research we are astounded by some of the computer mouse design that we find in the market. Some of them are quirky and make fun gift ideas, some are design with style and flair, there are also those that are extravagant and others design specifically for their users, be it a gamer or a designer. Other features were added to the mouse design for custom users, such as game pad, programmable buttons, number pad and even gaming consoles.
After looking at some of the innovative computer mouse designs in the list, one might just get an itch in your hand to try out one of them.

The majority of those were very impractical. I liked the toemouse the most, and the eye mouse the least(ouch!)
