Comics have played a major role during my early readings in my childhood. Most children are frankly excited to read things that come with illustration. However, many years after this comics are still a major part of my reading entertainment be it Japanese comics or popular titles such as Calvin and Hobbs and Garfield, these little snippets never failed to give one a good laugh and sometimes even make your day. However, illustration and storyline aside not many of us have paid much attention to the fonts used in comics.

Most designers if not all are aware how a particular font can bring out the designed, emotion or story of their product, comic fonts are not very different in this sense. However, the general public’s knowledge to comic font is frankly limited to Comic Sans MS, a font that is available in Microsoft Words and one that is widely used in comic speech bubbles. Unlike other forms of font created for graphic or aesthetic purposes; one thing to keep in mind for the fonts used in comics is that these fonts are normally easy to read, they are not too fancy or overly creative. On the other hand, some of the comic fonts were designed to express the titles, emotions or situation of the story plot. Therefore, while these fonts do not look extremely fancy, creative or graphical they have more flexibility, seeing that some of these comic fonts could fit in almost any situation or occasion.

We have specially selected 35 free comic fonts that are available for download. The selection of comic fonts that we have collected could be used for most situations, while some of them might seem familiar, some could be used during eerie or frightening moments, and others are perfect during surprised situation. On the other hand, some of the more creative ones could be used as a comic’s title giving it more personality and character to the story. All in all, there is no end to where these free comic fonts will fit in but all based in the hands of the designer and their creativity.

However, just because these fonts are meant for comics do not mean that they should only be used in such a confined area. One could also use some these free comic fonts in your designs, such as greeting cards and other art projects.
