When the sun goes down and the moon and stars come up, professional photographers will get the signal to begin their next set of photography. Night photography may sound easy, but it is quite complicated and requires some level of skill. Just having a flash on your DSLR will not give you the perfect night photo that you want to capture. The low level of lights makes night photography a challenging task. Nevertheless, professional photographers never cease to amaze us with beautiful photography of city night lights, fireworks, auroras, concerts and other fascinating things that happen after the sun goes down.
Some of the things that cameraman will want to take note of during night photography is the shutter speed, exposure levels, surrounding lighting and the landscape. Professional cameraman will usually consider the two choices they have in hand, whether to use artificial lighting or to use long exposure by exposing the scene over a period of time to get a better image. To time the exposure, professionals usually use a stopwatch or a remote timer to capture the image after sufficient exposure. Besides that tripods are also important in night photography to keep the camera still during the long exposure periods. You wouldn’t want to hold on to your camera for minutes or hours, right? Another item in the photographer’s arsenal is manual focus. Auto focus does not work well in low lighting due to the lack of subjects to focus on. Therefore, manual focus is essential for photographers to select the subject of the photograph.
For those who do not have the advanced night photography equipments as stated above, we would suggest that you begin by taking photos during dusk or early in the morning during dawn as there is still quite some sunlight to assist you. The advantage of shooting at these periods of time is that there is less dark areas in your image, reduces excessive contrast and adds more colour to your photo. Nevertheless, night photography skills are still essential during these periods of time.
Today we present to you a wonderful collection of beautiful night photography captured by professional photographers from all around the world. These photos were captured at different times of the day when sunlight is little to none. Some of these photos were captured at dusk, in the middle of the night and also during the dawn. We hope this collection will make you want to whip out your camera and head out to do some night photography of your own. Enjoy!

This is a splendid set of night photos, simply breathtaking! I recently acquired an old but still reliable camera but I can’t seem to figure things out. Ah well, maybe it’s time to take some lessons. Thanks for the share!
